Marrakesh – September 22nd 2017
Our BIG Morocco adventure day had arrived. We had hired Ali from ATM Journey tours in Morocco to take us around to see the Atlas mountains, Ourika Valley and end our tour with a sunset camel ride.
We were picked up bright and early in the morning and set out to the mountains. They weren’t too far from the city and it was such a gorgeous drive. Ali was such a great guide and gave us so much information on the area and on Morocco in general. We stopped for a little snack at the cutest cafe on the side of the road and all shared some mint tea and cookies. There were also many spots for some great photos! We got very very high into the mountain and Ali even took us all the way to a ski hill, there was no snow yet but in the winter there is. (who would have thought there was skiing in Morocco, not me!!).
Coming out the mountains we made our way to the Ourika valley. It was gorgeous with the mountain side on the right and a small creek on the left. Many restaurants lined the waterfront and chairs and tables were set all around and in the water for dining. We chose a restaurant and of course had to sit in the water. Shoes off, pants rolled up a bit, we waded into the water ankle deep and sat at our table. It was a lovely experience and the food was fantastic too!
We made our way back to the city as that is where the Camel ride was to take place. The Palm Groves is a huge area off the road and it gives you the feel of being out in the dessert (sort of). It was a great time, we all had our own camels except Mark who took Lucas with him. We couldn’t ride camels unless properly dressed however and so we became dessert nomads ready to ride!!
An hour in and Taylor’s camel was naughty and kicking and biting the one in front and our butts and legs had had enough. Definitely a highlight on the trip so far!!!
We were dropped later at our hotel and were exhausted but so happy we had this great day. Ali was a super guide!
