Marrakesh to Porto – September 24th – 25th 2017

We left Morocco and headed to the airport. We were on our way to Porto, Portugal with a quick plane change in Casablanca. First was all the security checks at the airport. It was excessive. I’m not complaining in the least about the many checks we went through. Extra security is reassuring, it was just our first taste of it. We arrived to the regular security at the airport and we sent all of stuff through as usual. We went to grab our bags on the other side and my backpack was sitting on the side and a stern security guard was waiting for me, dun dun dun!

I walked up oblivious. She asks if I have liquids in my bag, of course not I answer and she proceeds to check the bag. Low and behold she pulls out a bottle of mouthwash that had been at the bottom of my bag for who knows how long and I neglected to double check my bag before the flight. Oops. No big deal right?! WRONG. She was not happy with me! I explained I forgot and that she could throw it away. With a horrible glare she replied that it was now to be confiscated. I agreed and with a super sweet smile I got out of there fast (well as soon as she allowed me to go).

The flight landed in Casablanca later and we got off the flight, got the shuttle bus off the tarmac and into the terminal, followed the yellow line that told us it was for connecting flights and BOOM! hit a massive lineup that was no doubt going to take us an hour to get through when our flight was in less than that! Shoot! We paced and stressed and freaked out a bit inside. Then after a long 5 minutes in line I heard in a staff member announce in french that if you are coming from Marrakesh you go through a different door. Score! We confirmed with her and skipped that nasty line and made our way back into the terminal and to our gate to get on our connecting flight. Which, after all that stress, ended up being the exact same plane. Yup. Total run around.

Arriving in Porto our super hosts picked us up and took us to our home for the next few days. We were super lucky to have an ocean view in a gorgeous apartment where we had space to spread out and be comfortable. By far the most home-like rental we have been in so far!

The next day we were enjoying a lazy morning. We walked across the street to the beach, unfortunately the area was socked in with fog but that didn’t stop us from exploring. The beach had fun rocks to climb and good sand castle building sand to play in.

This was also the day that school officially started for the kids. Up until now we were too busy and I hadn’t been organized. School was officially in session and none of the kids were happy about it. hehe
