London – August 9th 2017

Back to the city for Adventure day #3.

Day two of our 48 hour hop on hop off tour. This morning we were to begin by getting off the tube at Buckingham Palace to see the changing of the guard. The weather had other plans for us. The sky opened up and dumped an incomprehensible amount of rain on us from the time we left the underground until we got to the Palace. We were soaked. I had even grabbed a couple rain ponchos from the bus the day before just in case. Well, the just in case time had come!!! I put one on Lucas and myself. We were the two lucky ones that had windbreaker jackets, not waterproof shells like the rest of them. Plus, I had the camera bag and when I saw a puddle forming on top, the clear plastic full on “I’m a Tourist” gear came out. In all honesty, it was raining so heavily that it didn’t matter. We were drenched. Feet were a soggy mess, hair was matted down and clothes were dripping wet. This rain put our hometown of Vancouver to shame!

Nonetheless we were ready to stand and wait for the changing of the guard. It was about 10-15 mins away from starting. That’s when it was cancelled!!!! I should have expected it. The rain was brutal, it’s just too bad we didn’t get notice before, haha.

With plans being changed we booked it to the closest hop on hop off pick up spot and decided to spend some time on the bus to stay dry. Well, everyone else had that idea too. Standing room only for us down below while Mark and a couple kids braved it up above under the partly covered deck of the bus.

We saw nothing through the windows. It was all fogged up. Great sightseeing tour 😉 We decided to get off at Harrods Department store (explore something inside and stay dry). We went in and checked out the watches and jewelry. One watch I saw was over $200,000 pounds. Yup, our kinda place, haha.

Away from the expensive stuff we explored the food court area. I LOVED IT. So much food, a massive variety and the best was the free samples of the most delicious chocolate cake. We joked about changing clothes and going back for more!

The kids got to spend time in the toy section upstairs and we slowly made our way out after a couple hours.

We decided that our last activity of the day would be the Natural History Museum. We waited outside for about 10-15 mins to get in. Still pouring rain!!! Once inside, we knew half of London would be touring the museum with us. It was crowded, but we were dry. There were actually some pretty cool things to see. One was an earthquake simulator. Lucas thought it was real and we needed to have a redo as we left in a panic the first time around, but he liked it after.

We shut the museum down and along with all our thousands of friends, we left at the same time and all made our way to the closet tube station just at the corner. This was nuts!!!!

We eventually made it home to our flat, hung every single thing to dry, put the heaters on to dry our shoes and all tried to warm up.
