Whistler Getaway

Mark and I got a little getaway to Whistler last week. This was perfect timing and stressful timing all at the same time.

We were in the middle of packing up the house, we had just had a busy Canada Day and family celebrations. I had worked up until this weekend and so had done little in the house to prep for the move (Mark had been busting his butt!). As we left and drove out of the city, the stress was slowly leaving me. All the lists of ‘to do’ things I had in my mind became blurred and it began to not matter. There was a shift in my thinking and I began to relax. This getaway was going to be exactly what we needed.

All checked in to our Airbnb, we went and walked in the village. Dinner was a quick, yet delicious meal at Peaked Pies, my favourite of favourites when we are in Whistler.

The next day we were energized and ready to spend the day up Whistler and Blackcomb mountains hiking and sightseeing and of course taking the PEAK 2 PEAK gondola. The ride up the mountain in the chair lift is so peaceful and beautiful. The higher we got, the more there was to see and the more I wanted to take pictures. After getting up to the top we explored the Snow Walls which were the coolest thing ever and a total bonus to our time up the mountain. The snow walls were up to 20 feet in some areas and the trail (road) you took was great for Mark and I being non-experienced hikers 😉

Finally, we were ready to take the PEAK 2 PEAK gondola across. We had luck on our side and got a gondola all to ourselves!! 11 minutes to cross the longest unsupported span for a lift and the highest of its kind at more than 1,427 feet above the valley floor! What an awesome experience. We floated above the valley and the wind rocked our gondola gently and we took it all in.

Whistler has always been one of my favourite places in the world. Since I was little, we’ve been lucky enough to have family time up there and now as an adult I still enjoy everything Whistler has to offer. My kids love it too and I hope that it may in turn become their most favourite place.
