Stonehenge & Swimming – August 7th 2017
What is a split day?
I just made it up. But we actually did split up and do two separate activities on this day. Activity number one was swimming at the neighborhood pool. Activity two was taking a tour to Stonehenge. Any guesses on how the split went? Read on and see….
I (Robyn) took the littles, Avery and Lucas swimming to the local pool about a 10 min walk from our flat. This pool was huge. I think I read somewhere that it was one of the largest outdoor pools in all of London (but don’t quote me on that). We arrived in the afternoon and although it was overcast and quite frankly a little chilly out (hello summer, where are you???) we were hopeful that a couple hours in the pool would warm us up and give us a great day.
We paid admission and walked around the corner thinking it was going to be packed, nope. There was a group of 4 teens and about 3 people swimming laps. We essentially had the entire pool to ourselves, yay!! We changed in the cutest little rooms they had off the pool deck and got ready to go in. I don’t recall which kid dipped their toe in first, but I do remember the squeal they made at how cold the water was. Now, I thought they were overreacting so I barged over there and made my way down the ladder. Stepped in, ready to show them how dramatic they were being and just I my toe hit the water, a squeal escaped my lips. No way. The kids weren’t joking. This pool was freezing (not literally as the sign read 18.7 degrees) but man o man it was cold. Perhaps it would have been called refreshing on a hot summer day, but alas, we missed the London heatwave.
We managed to all get in and the kids dunked under a few times, and we shivered and we ran in place and we wondered how the heck the other swimmers weren’t freezing cold. In the end, I think we braved the water for 30-45 mins. In the end, kids had a nice time, albeit short. It probably helped that I bought them a cookie when we left 🙂
Here is activity two in Marks words:
“I’ve always wanted to go to Stonehenge, it was great”
Mark, Grandma and Taylor decided on a tour to Stonehenge and left around lunch. Their tour would be all day and bring them home around 8-9 that night. They had about a 2.5 hour trip there. I hear it was pretty peaceful. Might have been that that the two littles were with me! So they explored Stonehenge once there, took a few pictures and had a great time. Since I wasn’t there, this is about as exciting the writing will get about this part of the trip. However, please see the many pictures taken at Stonehenge!
In the end the Split day was perfect. The kids and I had a more relaxed day, which is what we needed after so many busy ones. On the flip side, Mark and the others didn’t have to miss seeing a very cool tour.
First Split day: Success
