Edinburgh – August 3rd 2017
Edinburgh Castle had been on my must see list the minute I knew we were going to Scotland. Seeing pictures of this massive Castle sitting above the city drew me right in. I could picture myself there, hundreds of years ago in the stone walls.
Thursday was our day to go, we figured “how busy could it be”. Let. Me. Tell. You: BUSY!!! The tourists were out in full force. BTW, sometimes I count us as tourists and sometimes I don’t 🙂
We got our tickets and in we went. It was very neat being so high up. You could imagine hundreds of years ago that from that vantage point, Mary Queen of Scots could see so much and her guards could have seen anything coming!! I’m not a huge history buff so won’t say too much as to not mess up actual historical facts 🙂
We toured around for a while, the jail was set up like it would have been back then. It was interesting. Mostly it was crowded and hard to reach many areas to really enjoy and take it all in. But it’s summer so crowds are expected. We never did go in to see the Jewels or the Palace. The wait was going to be over 30 mins to just get in and we were getting hungry so we skipped it. One day I’ll write a separate review on Edinburgh Castle, but for now, I’ll say I’m glad I checked it off my list.
We left the castle area and walked down behind it and found OINK. We had a great tip from social media that there was a place that roasted up a whole pig daily and served pork sandwiches on the cheap. That won us over. Sure enough, right in the window at street level was the pig!! Sorry for any non meat eaters reading this, but it was tasty!!! We had a quick lunch and actually tried some Haggis!! woot woot (if you don’t think about what you are eating it tastes alright!). Some ice cream topped off our afternoon.
Edinburgh was now an official BEEN THERE, DONE THAT place. We were leaving on the train the next morning to Jolly Ol’ London.
